VOLA – Friend of a Phantom (2024) Review

Summary
A solid synth-infused, djenty VOLA album that brings the iconic vocals from Asger Mygind and the punchy drum work from their resident stick wielding Swede Adam Janzi back for their 4th studio album. Featuring guest vocals from In Flames' Anders Friden on their opening track, Cannibal, the Scandinavian quartet brings something for everyone, albeit it may leave you wanting that little bit more.
Good
  • Catchy choruses
  • Maintains a lot of their previous elements
  • An album for all VOLA fans
  • Instrumentation reminiscent of previous albums - always nice
Bad
  • Lyrically clunky
  • Song structure for heavier songs a bit too repetitive and hollow, leaving you wanting more from each song

The resident cave dwelling, chug loving, prog snob that doesn't like prog. You'll find me overindulging in mediocre music and rating it way too high.
