Oceans of Slumber – Where Gods Fear to Speak (2024) Review

Summary
Oceans Of Slumber has returned to the scene with their latest release 'Where Gods Fear To Speak' bringing their wearing gutteral and clean lead vocals against a canvas of heavy, gloomy guitars and blasting drums. Their sixth album in their 11 year career brings flourishes of hard hitting blast beats, guitar lines and rhythms, but are few and far between in the mix with it coming across as clunky at times. With more refinement, this band has the potential of releasing a truly special album, encompassing their wide range of talents and sounds, but for the time being, we have not yet seen how far this band can go.
Good
  • Creates a hellish soundscape to match the themes well
  • Metal elements much stronger and harder hitting than other releases
  • Vocal contrast starting to come together better
Bad
  • Clean vocals align well with certain songs but some leave them feeling out of place
  • Guitars drowned out by drums in post mix
