Mirar – Ascension (2025) Review
Summary
With a lot of sharp, arpeggiated melodies and crushing rhythms, Mirar's thallish stylistic signature is omnipresent in Ascension. While unmistakeably influenced by the guitar perversions of Buster Odeholm, Mirar have put together a sinister and surprisingly accessible (by their own standards) release to kickstart 2025. The atmospheres achieved in this album are unmatched, satisfying, and confrontingly heavy, delivered with a thall-y dissonance and uncertainty that compliments the modal choices and results in a strange sojourn through a vividly hellish struggle. Good
- Atmospheres are impeccable
- Great production
- Filthy riffs among the dissonance
- A strangely beautiful approach to capturing melody
- If music can scare you, probably don't listen to this. Or do, I'm not your dad
Bad
- What's a guy gotta do to get some sustained double kick action? Coupled with an emphasis on a few crescendos could have seen a massive elevation in the intensity of the music (which is a goal, I presume)
- If music can scare you, probably don't listen to this. Or do, I'm not your dad
