Azure – Fym (2024) Review

Summary
Expanding my musical horizons within the Prog Rock scene has been an eye opening experience, with a plethora of fantastic new albums from upcoming bands and heavy hitters alike gracing the scene for 2024. My latest find was Azure's 'Fym' which was the third album released from the Brighton based band and to say it was an interesting album was an understatement. Shaping a fantasy, progressive adventure, this album encompasses a myriad of complex rythmns, leads and sounds but falls flat here and there which feels more like a missed opportunity compared to a failure.
Good
  • Complex leads
  • Hard hitting rythmns and fantasy elements makes it a great album for your next fantasy board game night
Bad
  • Vocals overpowering, albeit the vocal range is impressive it feels too much at times
  • Releasing the album as an instrumental option alongside the current release would increase the relistening potential (vocals suck)
6.8
Fine
Leads & Melodies - 7.5
Rhythms & Percussion - 7.5
Vocals - 5.6
Lyrics & Themes - 6
Composition - 7.5
Sorting the musical gems being released through the swampy waters is a tedious task, so why not let me do it for you.
