Plaguewielder – IN DUST & ASH (2025) Review

Summary
Look... IN DUST & ASH is fine. If you enjoy black metal with strong post metal-esque vocals, then you'll also enjoy this. In looking past my general dislike of black metal, my eagerness to have the vocals matched with an equally enjoyable rhythmic or melodic part never really happened. Some of the atmospheres really drew me in, but they were too transient, and really just made me bitter for letting my guard down. I've re-written this part several times, but the underlying point was that I found myself bored throughout the album. I'm not the target audience, so I don't even know why I've reviewed this, but whatever.
Good
  • Some nice atmospheres
  • Vocals are strong
  • ASH is a good song
Bad
  • Fairly basic riffs that aren't very captivating
  • A real lack of punchiness

The resident cave dwelling, chug loving, prog snob that doesn't like prog. You'll find me overindulging in mediocre music and rating it way too high.
