Confess – Destination Addiction (2025) Review

Summary
When your band members are arrested and subsequently imprisoned in solitary confinement for three months on charges of blasphemy and anti-state propaganda - narrowly escaping a death sentence - you know that Confess are more than just a band; they are a cautionary tale of expression and a triumph of the will. Now, Destination Addiction is a death metal riff-fest with powerful themes of courage, defiance, and human resilience. What stands out to me most, besides the themes and riffing, is George Kollias' (Nile) legendary drumming and the aggressive, raspy vocals of Nikan Khosravi. This coupled with the ebbs and flows of pacing between songs has created a solid listening experience from start to finish. It's a powerful album with a powerful message - if you're a death metal purist, you'll like this. If you're an Iranian official, probably not.
Good
  • Solid riffing
  • The vocals, most of the time, are fantastically raspy and deep
  • Drumming is fantastic
  • The dedication and commitment to the art is admirable
Bad
  • Would have loved chunkier sounding guitar tones

The resident cave dwelling, chug loving, prog snob that doesn't like prog. You'll find me overindulging in mediocre music and rating it way too high.
