Tiktaalika – Gods Of Pangaea (2025) Album Review

Summary
Charlie Griffiths is back on the scene with his latest album, 'Gods of Pangaea', but unlike his first solo album, this has been released under the moniker 'Tiktaalika', which was the name of his first solo album (and a fantastic album at that). His latest album is a defiant step away from the sound of his first, drawing a wide inspiration from what feels like the late 80's and 90's progressive metal but tying it together with more mature, modern sounds and themes. Like his first album, his guitar work is top notch, which is to be expected from a guitarist of this calibre, but what Charlie has made is an album full of memorable, technically brilliant leads which compliments the vocalist guests he has for each song and movement of the album. For what it is, it is a fantastic album. It may not be everyone's cup of tea sound wise, but its well worth at least one listen through.
Good
  • Guitarwork on point; aligns with theme perfectly
  • Throwback to the early ages of progressive metal
  • Wide vocal range and rhythms compliment the guitarwork
Bad
  • Could use more variety to bring something new to the older sound
  • A little too niche in parts, which may not work for everyone
