Nite – Cult of the Serpent Sun (2025) Album Review
Summary
Blackened heavy metal. What? You heard me. It's heavy metal - the classic drum fills, rhythmic patterns, lead melodic lines - with the blackened touch of an inverting winter. There is a distinct and fairly unique aesthetic to Nite that represents a similar hold over contemporary music that Ghost holds: an easy-listening adaptation of older metal/classic rock that is flavoured by a quintessentially black metal aesthetic. Melodically, there are memorable melodies with effective rhythmic lines to compliment, ultimately resulting in what could only be described at decent norwegian pub metal. The melodies won't hold a lasting memory, and the rhythms won't keep you up at night, but from start to finish Cult of the Serpent Sun is a really enjoyable listen - I found myself constantly in a sense of enjoyment throughout the album. Nite's new album is what you show your dad who only listens to Motorhead and Whitesnake and you're trying to get him into the better shit. Good stuff. Good
- Memorable melodies and great attention to it
- Easy listening metal, for what it's worth
- Vocals contrasting with the heavy metal aesthetic is a really nice contrast
- No instrument feels out of place in each song
- Great compositional elements
Bad
- Would have loved more hooks that are consistent within each song
- Vocals are very difficult to understand. Not necessarily a negative, but given the storytelling elements, it would have been nice
