Arion – The Light That Burns The Sky (2025) Review
Summary
I really cannot stress how much I dislike these lyrical choices - and it can be said about power metal as a whole, at least more often than not - as they're filled with cliches, empty platitudes, and lines that belong in a current age Disney movie. Now, while the lyrical content is complete dog water (60's definition), it's not enough to send the album careening off a ledge into obscurity. Fortunately, the instrumentation is quite impressive - driven by melody, generously placed guitar solos, vocals that accentuate the other instruments, decently engaging rhythms, and some pretty exciting riffs (although, not a whole lot). The album itself contains a lot of symphonic elements that find themselves often in choruses, transforming them into moments of fanfare, which is a nice touch. There are some shining moments peppered throughout the album that like the "legendary winds" (jfc) serve as updrafts for the momentum of the album. Overall, a pretty good album save for the lyrics - if you don't speak or read English (I'll die on this lyrical hill) but like symphonic power metal, this might be one of your favourites for the year. Good
- Solid riffs and melodies
- Rhythmically energetic, as power metal should be - great drumming
- Vocals fit well into the mix most of the time
- Into The Hands Of Fate is a fantastic album closer
- A good respect for setting an atmosphere
Bad
- Lyrics... I'm not rehashing it here
- Quite a bit of the album feels like same ol' same ol' power metal with too little unique and distinguishable features
