Fleshgod Apocalypse – Opera (2024) Review

Summary
Fleshgod Apocalypse has been a band I have always been eager to hear new material from. Blowing my mind with 'Labyrinth' (their first album I heard) and then 'King', I have always yearned for more. 'Opera' encapsulates a lot of the iconic Fleshgod elements of old but continues to expand their range, incorporating not only female operatic vocals but also clean verses to bring a different flavour to their symphonic death metal sound. If this is their plan for future albums, I am all for it however, polishing the integration of the new vocals alongside their heavy hitting instruments and harsh vocals would help elevate them to higher heights.
Good
  • A thrilling, spiralling journey throughout
  • Brutally heavy growls highlighted by gorgeous operatic vocals
  • Something for all Fleshgod fans
Bad
  • Further refinement of the clean and harsh vocal contrast would help improve impact
  • More memorable rhythmic hooks would bolster some tracks

Sorting the musical gems being released through the swampy waters is a tedious task, so why not let me do it for you.
