Octoploid – Beyond The Aeons (2024) Review
Summary
I'm a big Olli-Pekka fanboy - Amorphis are great, and Barren Earth are a personal favourite - so after discovering Octoploid and listening without prior knowledge of the band members, it was unmistakably Barren Earth-esque. A tad more psychedelic, sludgy, and at times poppy/accessible, Beyond The Aeons is a great addition to the progressive death metal charts for the year with their eclectic exploration of a musically bizarre, vintage orgy that seems to better belong in the early 2000s, but I'll gladly have it in the 20's. Good
- Unique riffs
- A lot of keyboard-driven melodies
- Nice bass prominence
- Vocals fit great among all of the proggy oddities
Bad
- A lot of proggy risks taken, and some don't have the intended payoff
