Oubliette – Eternity Whispers (2024) Review

Summary
Atmospheric, melodic, and appropriately progressive black/death metal is the game here, folks. If you're one for an eclectic mix of these elements, you're in for a treat with Eternity Whispers. The instrumentals save for some boring drum fills are a real treat to listen to, as is the way it's all composed within their song structures: lock yourself in your own oubliette and strap yourself in for an aggressively beautiful ride through Eternity Whispers.
Good
  • Lovely atmospheres and walls of sound
  • Composition is great
  • Strong melodic components
  • Rhythms, for the most part, wonderfully compliment the leads
Bad
  • Relative to the instruments, the vocals aren't particularly strong
  • More soaring melodies would have been sick
7.9

Leads & Melodies - 8.2
Rhythms & Percussion - 8
Vocals - 7.4
Lyrics & Themes - 7.7
Composition - 8.3
The resident cave dwelling, chug loving, prog snob that doesn't like prog. You'll find me overindulging in mediocre music and rating it way too high.
