Slaughter the Giant – Abomination (2024) Review
Summary
The third release from Slaughter the Giant has the band tightening up their Black Dahlia Murder infused technical melodic death metal to a point where, dare I say, they are doing it better than their inspiration. Abomination is such an energetic, melodic, rhythmically engaging ride that it's become essential listening within this space for me. While not explicitly extreme metal, it does err on the side of the wall of aggressive sound that is prevalent in those types of albums, but in Abomination it's an accessible version of it, and almost always accompanied by a catchy, memorable melodic line. Slaughter the Giant's Abomination is a great album and you should listen to it. Right now. It's right below you. What are you waiting for? Stop reading this stupid review already. Good
- Good lord some of these riffs are disgusting
- Intensely melodic
- As an ensemble, it's fantastic
- Compelling composition and flow of album
- A joy to listen to from start to finish
Bad
- It's only 28 minutes
- More contrast between the two types of harsh vocals would have raised the vocals score even higher
- More soaring melodies would have raised the entire album higher
