Dreadnaught – Shutdown In A Heartbeat (2025) Review

Summary
More bands from Australia! Yes, c*nt (I can say it - it's our word). I didn't know of Dreadnaught before this release, but for a band that's been around for over 30 years, this is an astonishingly strong release. But only by those metrics. Outside of that it's still a good album, with some great and captivating moments. It's really right up my alley in terms of being hard-hitting, melodic, and erring on the side of thrashy, so for those reasons it gripped me throughout the duration of the album. What I'm not a fan of are the soloing styles, but that's fine - it's a good album if you're looking for some solid Australian melodic metal.
Good
  • There are some great riffs and moments
  • Vocals are distinct and add to the songs
  • Straya!
Bad
  • Lyrically whatever with too many platitudes - nothing new here, but could be considered anthemic with the vocalist's delivery
  • Some sections are either too basic or underwhelming, and they add up throughout the course of the album
7.4
Good
Leads & Melodies - 7.7
Rhythms & Percussion - 7.5
Vocals - 7.7
Lyrics & Themes - 6.6
Composition - 7.6

The resident cave dwelling, chug loving, prog snob that doesn't like prog. You'll find me overindulging in mediocre music and rating it way too high.
