Pathogenic – Crowned In Corpses (2025) Review

Summary
Oh, yeah. This is good. This is really good. Pathogenic's Crowned in Corpses is a ... uhh... progressive deathdjent? I don't know, but it really doesn't matter. What I do know, however, is that it's a banger of an album, filled to the brim with groovy, hard hitting caveman riffs and carefully placed melody. It's not just a prehistory nostalgia fest, it's a technical and melodic delight. For every caveman ugh ugh there is a beautifully strung weedly deedly, all of which create a truly impressive album from start to finish. The attention to rhythmic detail and subtle melodic lines (for the rhythm guitars) is gorgeous, and the balance between beauty and aggression within the songs' atmospheres is worth praising. I'm loving everything Pathogenic are putting out there with Crowned in Corpses, and to finish it off with an 8-minute epic is truly impressive.
Good
  • Sick as shit riffing
  • Groovy and captivating rhythmic sections
  • Melodically very complete, with few rhythm heavy sections being without melody (even subtle)
  • Perfectly technical - not too overbearing and ungraspable
  • Vocals fit really well in the mix
Bad
  • There are some riffs and rhythmic parts that are extremely similar to other bands, which detracts from the potential uniqueness of the album
8.6

The resident cave dwelling, chug loving, prog snob that doesn't like prog. You'll find me overindulging in mediocre music and rating it way too high.
