Thy Kingdom Will Burn – The Loss and Redemption (2025) Review
Summary
Scandinavian Melodic Death Metal is on the menu and it's pretty tasty... at times. The traditional melodeath sounds, chord progressions, rhythmic styles, and song structures in 2025 is really tiring for me, as it's rarely an improvement on the old classics (I'm looking at you The Jester Race, Haven, and Slaughter Of The Soul) and The Loss and Redemption is unfortunately no different. That doesn't mean it's a bad album - rather, the shoes to fill are so large when you're putting out music in a very similar vein as the greats, so it's a Sisyphus situation if you're not bringing anything new to the table. What The Loss and Redemption does achieve are a few memorable songs (one of which is below - their best song on the album) which is more than can be said for a lot of bands. Regardless, it's a fine album, but unless you're a melodic death metal absolutist or new to the genre, it's probably not going to do a whole lot for you. Good
- Solid vocals - a little reminiscent of At the Gates
- Melodies can be captivating when they want them to be
- A few memorable songs
Bad
- It's either boring or good - there's very little in between
- It's fairly run of the mill Scandinavian melodic death metal
