There's something here... I don't quite know what it is, but it's got me thinking... and that's never a good thing. What I am thinking is largely influenced by this odd pain in my head... and it says to me that this is an album from a band that has been killing it for 35+ years. Oh, yes. You read that correct - this is certifiable unc-metal. Is that a bad thing? No, of course not: Immolation's Descent is a great album, and one that smells like the old (just like a donation bin) but sounds like the new. We've got the heavy; we've got the chugs; we've got the looming harsh vocals and we've got a memorable album to cement it all within. What more do you want? You wouldn't ask your uncle to give you more expensive gifts year after year, would you? That would be nonsensical. He might not have a mortgage, but he's got a leather jacket, so, relax. Descent is a strong death metal album and, for the year, a quintessential death metal release. Go on, then.
